Kids Day America/International

Families here in South Dakota celebrated with families around the world in the annual Kids Day America/International. Kids and their parents learned how to keep children safe this afternoon. Booths focused on safety -- both health and protection from drugs and criminals.

Event sponsor Dr. Amanda Van Voorst provided free spinal exams and scoliosis screenings. The doctor says that the community has embraced the event with open arms. Dr. Amanda Van Voorst says, "People have been very appreciative of it and people seem to really like it and think it's a good thing so we're happy about that."

The Brandon Police Department was on hand to give free fingerprinting for all the little ones. There were also prize drawings, face painting and food. This was the first time Kids Day America/International had an event in Brandon.

On Saturday, May 14, 2005, communities worldwide will be participating in "Kids Day America/ InternationalT." This is a special day dedicated to children's health, safety, and environmental awareness for children between the ages of 6-12. For the second year Dr. Garlan and the Silverdale Wellness Center will be hosting Kids Day America at the Pennridge Central Middle School in Silverdale, from 12-3 pm.

This event is FREE for families:

• The children will receive a child ID card consisting of fingerprinting provided by the Hilltown Police Department, Dental screening provided by Dr. J. Brook Lewis and a photograph.
• Children will have FREE postural and backpack safety performed by Dr. Leah Garlan & Dr. Brian Hymowitz.
• The Silverdale Fire Department is bringing their fire truck and will be on hand educating on fire safety.
• Officer Chuck Stockert will be conducting bike safety.
• Cooperative Games for Kids by Karen DeHaven.
• Comprehensive Alternative Healthcare and Allergy Testing By: Kitty Ghen & Ian Kennedy
• First Aid Awareness & Blood Pressure Screening by the Perkasie Ambulance
• Display & Information from Pennridge Water Resources Plan
• Habitat for Humanity
• Demonstrations & Projects
• Face Painting by the Girl Scouts
• Karate and Self Defense Demonstrations by K.A.M.P. Karate
• Spiderman and some of the athletes of Hopefuls.org will be on hand and we will also provide free balloons and snacks. There will be special giveaways and prize drawings every half-hour!
• GRAND PRIZE DRAWING FOR HUFFY BIKE (donated by Wal-Mart) & 10,000 sq.ft of Turf Care for 1 year (donated by Derstine Turf Care)

ON SATURDAY MAY 14, COMMUNUTIES WORLDWIDE WILL BE PARTICIPATING IN THE ELEVENTH ANNUAL "KIDS DAY AMERICA" FROM 12-3PM. iF IS A MOMENTOUS DAY DEDICATED TO HEALTH, SAFETY, AND ENVIRONMENTSL ISSUES THAT EFFECT INDIVIDUALS AND OUR COMMUNITY AS A WHOLE. MORE THAT 2,000 OFFICES HAVE PARTICIPATED IN THIS HISTORIC EVENT INTERNATIONALLY. AS A LOCAL CHIROPRACTOR, I SPEND MUCH OF MY TIME, BOTH INSIDE AND OUTSIDE MY PRACTICE, HELPING CHILDREN. IT IS FOR THIS VERY REASON THAT I CHOSE TO SPONSER THIS EVENT IN SUMMERVILLE. DURING THIS EVENT, WE WILL DISTRUBUTE ESSENTIAL INFORMATION ON CRIME PREVENTION,CHILD SAFETY, AND ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS ISSUES. IN ADDITION, MY OFFICE WILL OFFER FREE SPINAL EXAMS AND SCOLIOSIS SCREENING, AND DISTRIBUTE ESSENTIAL INFORMATION ON DISEASE PREVENTION AND HEALTH PROMOTION. WE WILL ALSO PROVIDE FREE BALLOONS, SNACKS, GIVEAWAYS, AND HOLD PRIZE DRAWINGS EVERY HALF-HOUR! WE HAVE CHOSEN TO SPONSER CHILDREN IN CRISIS AS PART OF OUR CEELEBRATION TO SPOTLIGHT THEIR INVOLVEMENT IN CHILD AWARENESS. The community is invited to the annual Kids Day America event on May 14th. This event will be sponsored by Northwest Athletic Club and Arbor Lakes Chiropractic Center in Maple Grove. The event is to teach children about health, safety, and wellness issues. We will have the MG Police Dept. giving away free DNA kits, MG Fire Dept. will have a fire engine for touring, and a 911 simulator will teach children what to do in an emergency. Representatives from Missing Children Minnesota, MN Poison Control, American Red Cross, Prevent Child Abuse MN, etc. will present information every parent needs to know. Local Girl Scout and Boy Scouts troops will also be available.

Also, personal fittings of bike helmets will be available for purchase from North Memorial. We will have car seat and booster seat safety demonstrations. There will also be free dental, health, eye screenings, and a demonstration on electrical safety. Many other businesses and information will be available regarding children health and safety. Do not miss this opportunity. McGruff the Crime Dog, OC BEE, the Good NeighBear, and Daffydile the Clown will all be there. We will even have a special appearance by: Ronald McDonald.

We will have an inflatable moonwalk, pizza, cotton candy, popcorn, face painting, and other fun events for your family's enjoyment. Proceeds benefit Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery.
